For this innovative facility, ARCHSOL collaborated with professionals from a variety of disciplines, including cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, nurses, physicians, imaging providers, operating room design experts, and other mechanical and electrical vendors.
The design needed to be a hybrid concept, to create a facility that would combine the traditional diagnostic functions of a cath lab with the surgical functions of an operating room. This would enable surgeons to perform minimally-invasive and open surgical procedures in the same room.
Only existing space could be used, so the plans had to consider the limitations of room heights and spaces already there. The design itself was extremely intricate and precise, to accommodate technology and equipment, and the project as a whole demanded the exacting standards of developing an operating suite. The precise placement of the ceiling-mounted cath lab and the operating room equipment was integral to the project’s success.
Construction needed to be seamless and the risk of delay or cost overrun had to be reduced as much as possible. ARCHSOL applied the necessary risk-management discipline to minimize change orders, which saved the client money and helped ensure that the facility would open on schedule.
With this state-of-the-art hybrid operating suite, YRMC becomes a leader in Arizona in providing patients the latest advancements in addressing cardiovascular disease.
