One thing I knew for sure was that I wanted to help improve people’s lives through design. So healthcare seems like the obvious choice. I know that for most people, it wouldn’t seem like the best. You know, there’s a lot of codes, a lot of regulations, um, different things you have to follow. But for me, those kinds of challenges were what really excited me.

For someone that’s looking to get into the healthcare field, I would say, “Go for it”. Some people might feel like design is limited in healthcare, and there’s not a lot. A lot of opportunities to kind of be creative. Um, but it’s actually quite the opposite. The healthcare industry demands that architects are continuously researching new materials and staying abreast of new technologies.

One thing about healthcare is that it helps improve people’s lives. And wellbeing. So as a healthcare architect, I think it’s really interesting to be able to try to reconcile the needs of the patient, the staff, and the visitors, and improve the overall experience for the patient and everybody overall.
